Sale fly-half Danny Cipriani admitted he is "gutted" to be left out of Eddie Jones' first England squad but insists he has not given up on playing international rugby again.
New boss Jones named his 33-man Elite Player squad on Wednesday at Twickenham ahead of next month's Six Nations opener with Scotland.
Jones named two No 10s in Bath's George Ford and Saracens' Owen Farrell, though the latter is also a candidate to start at inside centre.
Cipriani was also left out of England's World Cup squad by Jones' predecessor Stuart Lancaster and at the age of 28 his international future looks uncertain.
But Cipriani insists that he will do all he can to improve and persuade Aussie Jones that he should be in the squad.
He posted on Instagram: "Obviously gutted not to be involved in the initial Six Nations squad - can only get back to Sale and continue to play and improve in all areas to try to get picked. Been happy with my form but know there is more I can do - that's all that is in my control."
Cipriani was full of praise for his Sharks team-mate Josh Beaumont - the No 8 is one of seven uncapped players named in the squad.
He added: "Congrats to the new caps and especially @joshbeaumont392 - watching him play for the last couple of seasons. He really deserves it! I'll get back to wearing the red rose again - that's the dream."
Jones insists that the door is not shut on Cipriani.
"He knows what he has got to do," Jones told Sky Sports News HQ. "We know he is a talented player. He's not far away. We're hopeful if he can attend to those things he can come back into the reckoning."
