With another hotly-contested Aviva Premiership campaign on the horizon, we cast our eyes over the league's key signings.

Ben Te'o (Worcester Warriors)

Born in Auckland to an English mother, Te'o announced back in December that he was to turn his back on a rumoured return to rugby league and the province of Leinster to join Worcester Warriors in a deal reportedly designed to further his international ambitions.

Ben Te'o's performances for Leinster caught the eye of Eddie Jones

In rugby league, Te'o represented New Zealand U18s and the Junior Kiwis before a move to Australia saw him switch allegiances, enjoying a successful career with West Tigers, Brisbane Broncos and the South Sydney Rabbitohs, as well as playing seven games for Queensland in the State of Origin.

The 29-year-old also represented Samoa in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup, scoring twice in his sole appearance against France.

The powerful back made the move to Leinster in 2014 and fitted seamlessly into the province's midfield. The move to the Premiership brings him into England contention and he was recently named in Eddie Jones' 45-man training squad ahead of the new season.

Schalk Burger (Saracens)

Schalk Burger leaves South Africa and the Stormers behind to join Saracens

Saracens have added Burger to their ranks as they look to retain their Premiership and European titles.

The 33-year old has joined the north London club on a two-year deal and is renowned as one of world rugby's finest back-row forwards, winning 86 caps for his country and scoring 14 tries.

A powerful and uncompromising competitor, Burger's battles on the pitch have won him many plaudits including being named the 2004 IRB World Player of the year and receiving the 2015 Laureus Comeback of the Year award for his return to health from bacterial meningitis.

Matt Toomua (Leicester Tigers)

Matt Toomua has lit up Super Rugby and is expected to make a similar impact in the Premiership

Toomua is recognised among the top playmakers in Super Rugby. Comfortable at fly-half or inside centre, he made 88 appearances for the Brumbies and is one of only eight players to have scored a hat-trick for the club.

The 26-year-old has played 33 Tests for the Wallabies but suffered from concussion in their defeat to New Zealand in Sydney, which could rule him out for the rest of the Rugby Championship.

Toomua has a history of concussion problems and Leicester will hope he can make a fast recovery. He is due to arrive in the UK in October.

Louis Picamoles (Northampton Saints)

Louis Picamoles will add some ball-carrying ballast to the Saints line-up

Picamoles is a back-row titan who makes the move to Franklin's Gardens at the peak of his career.

A line-busting No 8 with sharp vision and bags of experience, Picamoles will help to fill the gaping hole in the armoury left by the departure of Samu Manoa in 2015.

The 30-year old has won 51 caps for France, while helping Toulouse to lift the European Cup in 2010 and Top 14 title on two occasions.

Picamoles and Northampton will be keen to looking to return to winning ways after a disappointing campaign that saw them finish outside the Premiership play-offs.

Josh Charnley (Sale Sharks)

Josh Charnley makes the switch to rugby union from league

Josh Charnley will become the latest rugby league player to try his hand at the 15-man code when he makes the switch to Sale Sharks.

The Wigan winger has scored 161 tries in 170 appearances, finishing as the top try-scorer in Super League in both 2012 and 2013 and helping the club win two Super League Grand Finals and two Challenge Cups.

Charnley also played for the England Rugby League on seven occasions including in the 2013 World Cup and 2014 Four Nations, scoring eight tries.

Sale will be hoping that the 25-year-old can emulate their last signing from the Warriors, Jason Robinson, back in 2000 who went on to become an influential figure at both domestic and international level.
