The young Racing-Metro player forgot to attend a practice on Wednesday evening at the French national training centre at Marcoussis, outside Paris, and was duly axed from the squad by coach Philippe Saint-Andre.

Medard comes in to the starting line-up with Charles Ollivon joining an 11-man bench that will be reduced to eight players by match day.

Thomas has made a flying start to his international career, scoring four tries in his first two matches for Les Bleus.

"In the France group there are rules that everyone should respect," explained Saint-Andre.

"Teddy, who we love a lot, has forgotten these. When you play in the France team you have to be beyond reproach and respectful on and off the field.

"I had a meeting yesterday (Wednesday) with Teddy and he understands. I'm sure it will make him grow up."

The switch of Medard for Thomas sees France make five changes from the starting line-up which defeated Australia 29-26 last weekend.

Xavier Chiocci comes in at prop, Benjamin Kayser at hooker and lock Sebastien Vahaamahina also starts after making cameo appearances against the Wallabies.

The only other change to the starting line-up is the return of centre Maxime Mermoz, who last played in March in the 22-20 defeat to Ireland in the Six Nations.

Sebastien Tillous-Borde and Camille Lopez remain the half-back pairing for the third time in a row after months of tinkering as they seek a November hat-trick of wins against the Pumas.

Tillous-Borde and fly-half Lopez are Saint-Andre's 13th half-back pairing to start for France since he took over from Marc Lievremont.

Argentina have lost to Scotland and beaten Italy in this autumn series and will be hoping to record their fifth win in nine outings against their upcoming opponents.

France: 15 Scott Spedding, 14 Yoann Huget, 13 Maxime Mermoz, 12 Wesley Fofana, 11  Maxime Medard, 10 Camille Lopez, 9 Sebastien Tillous-Borde; 1 Xavier Chiocci, 2 Benjamin Kayser, 3 Nicolas Mas, 4 Pascal Pape, 5 Sebastien Vahaamahina, 6 Thierry Dusautoir (capt), 7 Bernard Le Roux, 8 Damien Chouly.
