Wales have suffered a blow ahead of their summer tour with the news that Aaron Shingler and Ashton Hewitt have had to withdraw from the squad with injury.

Flanker Shingler suffered a knee injury in Scarlets' Guinness PRO14 final defeat to Leinster on Saturday, while Dragons wing Hewitt sustained a shoulder injury in Wales training on Thursday.

A statement from Wales said Shingler's injury "requires further assessment". He has been replaced in the squad by Cardiff Blues' Josh Turnbull, while there is no replacement for Hewitt.

Turnbull has eight caps for Wales, the last of which came two years ago against England at Twickenham.

Wales leave for the USA on Sunday ahead of a Test against South Africa in Washington DC next weekend.
