Dylan Hartley has called on England to finish the Six Nations job against Ireland and then take aim at rugby's No 1 ranking.

Eddie Jones' side beat Scotland 61-21 on Saturday to secure the title and equal New Zealand's record of 18 consecutive Test wins..

Victory in Dublin on Saturday would mean the outright record and a second straight Grand Slam, but captain Hartley says England's ambitions extend way beyond next weekend.

England's winning run

We look back at England's 18-game winning streak

"We have two options," he said. "There's failure on one side or you can kick on and get better and hit those lofty heights.

"We've put ourselves in the position to win a Grand Slam in this tournament and that's what we're out to do.

"The performance against Scotland was pretty ruthless so it was a good progression for the team, but we've only equalled New Zealand's record. We'd like to go one further.

"Of course we want that record. We want to get better and win games and that comes as part and parcel with it. We want to be the best team in the world, but we're not. That's the reality - we're not. But we've got something to aim for.

"It feels weird because until we finish next weekend it won't feel like we've won the tournament.

"We'll enjoy this, but the focus has to shift pretty quickly because we don't have a two-week turnaround like we did for this game, so we need to be on it from the start.

Jones: England are vulnerable

Eddie Jones says last-round opponents Ireland have a psychological advantage over his England side

"We're very pleased with the attack, but we can improve. I'm very proud of the team, but it's done now. It was a good performance but we move on.

"There were some good improvements, but we've set the bar pretty high and we will have to meet those expectations again next week."

Hartley's resolve was echoed by Joe Launchbury, who was among a group of England players at Weybridge Vandals studying for their coaching badges on Sunday morning.

Launchbury told Sky Sports News HQ: "We've always got guys coming for us and it'll be no different this weekend, but I'm sure we're going to have another great week's prep.

"We'll go and review the game and look where we can improve and get better for next week.

"We're enjoying our rugby. We know there's parts of our game we need to improve on, but we're pleased with our progression and hopefully there's more to come from us."
