Sara Cox made history over the weekend when she became the first female referee to take charge of a men’s rugby union match in National League One.
The 26-year-old became a rugby union referee after her career was cruelly cut short due to injury problems when she was aged just 16.
Cox, who has prior experience of refereeing rugby at semi-professional level in National Two South, presided over Plymouth Albion's 20-18 win at Loughborough Students on Saturday.
She was the only English referee during the Sevens tournament at the 2016 Rio Olympics and is the only female match official to be centrally contracted by the (RFU) Rugby Football Union.
