USA stun New Zealand to reach Twickenham sevens semi-finals

The United States pulled off a major surprise as they outplayed New Zealand to reach the semi-finals of the latest World Series Sevens event at Twickenham on Sunday.

Perry Baker was the American hero scoring four tries in a 42-14 victory in west London, with the Kiwis' cause not helped by an injury to Sonny Bill Williams who limped off early in the game.

The 30-year-old, who was a member of the All Blacks side which lifted the World Cup trophy in 2011 and 2015, suffered an ankle injury after being tackled heavily.

Williams, who has also enjoyed major success in rugby league, had joined up with the New Zealand sevens squad in the hope of playing his way into their Olympic team for Rio this August.

The world champions are also facing Wales in three Tests - in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin - during June.
