Rangi Chase 'will get his chance' after internal investigation at Castleford

Rangi Chase has fallen down the pecking order at Castleford after being disciplined, says coach Daryl Powell.

The former England stand-off and 2011 Man of Steel was dropped for the Tigers' last match following the outcome of an internal investigation into an incident that took place away from the club.

Chase, who played for England in the 2013 World Cup, joined Castleford for a second spell last summer after indifferent stints at Salford and Leigh, signing a new 12-month contract in October, and Powell insists his chance will come again.

"For pretty much the whole of pre-season he was awesome, to be honest," Powell added. "He had a little bit of a blip but we've moved on from that now.

"He's trained well this week and he's got to do that consistently over weeks. You never know when things are going to change.

"The opportunity will come and then it's about taking it."

With another specialist stand-off, Ben Roberts, nursing a groin strain, Powell was forced to use hooker Paul McShane as Luke Gale's half-back partner in his side's 66-10 rout of Leeds last Thursday.

Roberts is now fit again and, although not guaranteed to displace McShane for Sunday's Betfred Super League match at Widnes, he has leapfrogged Chase in Powell's half-back options.

"Ben Roberts will come back into the equation," Powell said. "I've got to make a decision on whether I use him or not.

"The team played exceptionally well last week.

"We're starting to get some options. We've got a talented group of half-backs here. You saw Paul McShane slot in there last week and look like an accomplished half-back.

"The last thing you want to do in this team is take yourself out of it because getting back into it is quite hard."
