Widnes have secured the future of another key squad member after centre Chris Dean signed a new contract.

Dean has made 113 appearances for the Vikings since joining from Wakefield in 2013 and his new deal commits him to the club until the end of the 2018 season.

Widnes have been busy over recent weeks in signing their players to longer-term contracts, with Joe Mellor, Charly Runciman and Eamon O'Carroll having signed new deals in the last fortnight.

"I have been with the club for nearly five years now and I am proud to have been part of the team's growth on and off the field," said Dean. "I am really enjoying playing here at the Vikings and can't wait to see where the next two years take us as I feel it will be some place special."

Vikings coach Denis Betts added: "Retaining a player like Chris is fantastic for the club. From day one he has applied himself both on and off the pitch and has always given everything out on the field.

"Chris is the type of player that all great clubs are built on, to secure a player of his quality will only add to the strength of the team."
