Brian McDermott says Leeds Rhinos will be thinking of the fans and club staff who backed the side during "dark times" ahead of the Super League Grand Final clash with Wigan.

The Rhinos are chasing the treble, having already wrapped up the Challenge Cup and League Leaders' Shield.

And he told Sky Sports News HQ that a victory over the Warriors would be a special milestone for everyone at the club.

McDermott said: "It would be great for the club and great for the fans. We've been through some dark times this year.

"After winning at Wembley we lost three games in a row and ran the risk of not being league leaders. There was plenty of pressure then but the fans and those at the club backed us.

"So at times like this, when we are on the verge of something special, it is them that we think of.

We don't have a divine right to win. We have to work on it and we are keeping a lid on that emotion. But it would be special.

However, he says preparing for a Grand Final is no different to any other top level encounter.

He added: "To be honest, we've done this 36 times now. You still have to train but there will be nothing new coming out this week.

"You won't see any different plays or a different approach.

"We just need to do what we do really well. The Wembley week took so much out of us, and then had three losses after that.

"We've had a fair few injuries of late but the last couple of weeks training has been good, we've had plenty of bodies back and the performances have improved as well.

"It's been a good week and players will be prepared."

The build up to the Grand Final starts at 5pm on Sky Sports 1 HD on Saturday.
