Hull FC captain Gareth Ellis has been charged with striking an opponent.

The former England second rower is facing a grade B offence of striking Wakefield forward Anthony Tupou with his arm/shoulder in the early stages of Sunday's 46-28 win over the Wildcats.

Wakefield coach Chris Chester was upset over the injury to Tupou, who left the field after 11 minutes and never returned.

"Toops has had about 15 stitches inside of his mouth and he's going for an X-ray," Chester said.

"I'll never know how the ref didn't see the shot around his face, but we'll let the match-review people do their jobs this week."

Ellis, who was charged by the Rugby Football League's match-review panel, is eligible for an early-guilty plea.
