Salford expect Australian stand-off Todd Carney to arrive in the country by the weekend after he received his visa.

The Red Devils announced the signing of the 30-year-old on a 12-month deal in January but the player has been forced to wait in Sydney for the paperwork to go through.

Salford owner Marwan Koukash revealed on Twitter on Thursday morning that he had received a phone call from the player to say his application had come through and said: "He will be here in the next 48 hours."

Carney's proposed move to Huddersfield in 2009 fell through after he was denied a visa due to drink-driving offences but the Red Devils were confident he would get the go-ahead this time after spending the last two years in Super League with Catalans Dragons.

Carney, who was sacked by all three of his NRL clubs, Penrith, Canberra and Sydney Roosters for various alleged offences, was released by the Dragons at the end of last season.
