Super League newcomers Leigh have signed Curtis Naughton from Hull on a season-long loan.

The Centurions made their move for Naughton, who turns 22 later this month, after losing full-back Gregg McNally for up to 12 weeks with an ankle injury.

Leigh may also be without winger James Clare for the entire campaign because of a serious knee problem.

Leigh coach Neil Jukes said: "Unfortunately, James has his scan result back which shows he has an ACL injury.

"As the scan is worse than we expected this will rule him out for most, if not all of the season.

"This is in addition to losing Gregg McNally for between 10 and 12 weeks after his injury in the Wigan game.

"It was vitally important that we acted upon the situation and certainly given that we were already a bit light in the outside backs area.

"We were in danger of losing that edge of competition for places in that area which is vital in all departments.

"We shall continue to support James through this difficult time but it was important that we kept those qualities within the squad and Curtis' signing ensures that."

Dewsbury-born Naughton, who made his Super League debut for Bradford in the final game of the 2013 season, spent 2014 with Sydney Roosters' Under-20s side before joining Hull for the start of the 2015 campaign.

Naughton made 15 appearances in Super League last year, and signed a two-year contract extension with the Black and Whites in March.

Hull coach Lee Radford said: "It's a great opportunity for Curtis to get some game time under his belt.

"With the quality we currently have on our edges, and at full-back for the early part of the season, regular selection was going to be tough.

"But Curtis is at an age now where he needs to be involved week-in, week-out and hopefully that can happen at Leigh under Neil."
