Week three of the Super 8s throws up a derby fixture, just four weeks on from the last Wigan v St Helens game.

The Saints gained the two points at the DW Stadium that night, and it's helped them surge towards a potential Grand Final thanks to their fantastic recent form.

So will the Warriors end that run? Here's three head-to-heads that might decide it.

Anthony Gelling v Dominique Peyroux

Both teams are struggling with injuries this week, especially in the backs, meaning others will have to step up to the plate in their absence.

For Wigan, their centres Anthony Gelling and Dan Sarginson will be crucial. Winger Dom Manfredi is out for the season, while fellow flyer Josh Charnley is also a major doubt. That means inexperienced players could fill in out wide. Gelling will need to protect his winger. And he only returned against Castleford after two months out injured.

Brilliant on his day, he can provide game changing moments in the centre. Talented in attack, he has scored four tries and provided five try assists, while making eight clean breaks and busting 36 tackles. And with 37 offloads, the second most in the Wigan side, Gelling's team-mates need to make sure they follow up his runs into contact. So who will Gelling be providing the ammo for? That's still to be decided, but Shaun Wane will need a big performance from his centre come Friday.

St Helens have problems of their own in the backs. Mark Percival's leg injury means his devastating partnership with Adam Swift is broken up. Dominique Peyroux swapped sides in the win over Catalans and he could strike up a rapport of his own with the Saints' form winger. Peyroux returned in the win over Warrington and St Helens will be pleased to have him back in action.

It's been a frustrating first season for Peyroux, missing several spells through injury, but he has scored two tries and provided three try assists during his time on the pitch. And he'll need to continue providing Swift with the ammo the winger needs to continue that try scoring form from last week.

Sam Powell v James Roby

The two hookers will be crucial in driving their packs forward as both teams look to get the upper hand on Friday.

Sam Powell's done a good job this season. He's had big boots to fill in the absence of Michael McIlorum and has done so, not missing a Super League game in 2016. Powell has stepped up defensively, easily topping the Wigan tackle count with 981, 293 more than the next best, Willie Isa.

That's also second in the competition, behind Hull FC's tackling machine Danny Houghton. Powell also provides direction from dummy half, he's made three try assists, put in 12 attacking kicks and also crossed for five tries of his own this season.

The hooker might not run much out of dummy half, just 69 times, a figure not even the most in the Wigan side, let alone in Super League, but Powell is key to Wane's defensive organisation and will need a big game on Friday.

Image: James Roby is a huge threat with ball in hand

Powell faces Super League's dummy half expert, James Roby, who tops the runs from dummy half rankings with 233, 52 more than Super League's next best, Rob Burrow. It makes Roby such a threat with ball in hand and he has scored four times this season, including last time the sides met last month, while also completing 2120 metres at an average gain of 7.52m.

Roby is also St Helens' defensive lynchpin, topping their tackle count with 917. He may face a fight for his England jersey with Josh Hodgson starring in the NRL and Super League's Daryl Clark in top form, but Roby can prove who is top dog with a strong finish this season.

John Bateman v Joe Greenwood

It's normally a feisty affair when these two sides go head to head, so stand by for a monster battle between the two packs.

John Bateman needs a big end to the season. He missed a huge chunk of the regular campaign thanks to a club-enforced suspension and the second rower needs to repay them with some big performances. But Bateman is one of Super League's top talents. A real all-rounder, he still ranks highly in Wigan's statistics despite missing those games during the ban.

He's fourth on the tackle count with 541 successful hits, third in the metres list with 2213m - completed at an average rate of 7.23m a drive, second in the tackle busts column with 93, third on the clean breaks list with 10 and top of the offloads with 47. Such numbers show how effective Bateman is in both attack and defence and it's that reason that makes him one of the competition's top players. So can he put that mid-season wobble behind him and help Wigan back to this year's Grand Final?

Image: Joe Greenwood is second top try scorer for Saints so far this season

For St Helens, Joe Greenwood has impressed. He didn't feature in Super League until Round 5 this season, but apart from the odd injury, the young forward has been a mainstay in the side ever since. Greenwood's found a canny knack of finding the tryline in 2016. He's St Helens' second top scorer with 11, only behind Adam Swift and that's because the winger crossed four times against Catalans.

Greenwood went over against the Dragons for a try that makes him Super League's second highest scoring forward, just four behind Warrington's Ben Currie. More surprisingly, Greenwood's tackle busts and clean breaks figures are quite low, showing he's just often in the right place at the right time. Strong in defence too, he has made 456 tackles, also ranking highly with 12 offloads. How Keiron Cunningham could use another crucial try from his second rower come Friday night.
