Leigh closing in on a Super League place, Hull taunt Hull KR and Red Devil blues feature in this week's Set of Six.
1. Leigh march on
Hats off to Leigh who took a giant step towards Super League with their fourth win from four matches in the Qualifiers.
They battled back from 12-0 down to beat Hull KR 25-18 and could be just one game away from cementing their spot in Super League next season.
With three games to go, Leigh will be looking to seal the deal next weekend against Huddersfield, before taking on Batley and then Leeds in the final game.
Huddersfield, who beat London Broncos 40-4 at the weekend, are determined to hold on to their Super League status and know they are in for a tough test against Leigh.
"Leigh are a good team, they have shown that in their first three games and they are going to be at home so we will get a decent break now and that gives us a chance to regroup and get over a few bumps and bruises and have a good week," said Giants coach Rick Stone.
2. Hull FC fans charter a plane
Hull KR's loss to Leigh got even worse as their neighbours decided to rub salt into the wounds with a cheeky fly-by.
Hull FC claimed their first trophy in 11 years courtesy of a nail-biting 12-10 Challenge Cup win over Warrington Wolves at Wembley last weekend, much to the relief of their supporters who decided to charter a plane and send a message to the KR fans ahead of their game against Leigh.
The Hull FC faithful have had to endure chants of 'You'll never win at Wembley' from opposition fans after twice ending up on the losing end of cup finals at the stadium in the last decade, but they got their revenge on Saturday with the use of a plane as they took a cheeky swipe at the fans of bitter rivals Hull KR.
3. Room at the top?
Hull, Warrington, Wigan and St Helens look to have the top four spots sewn up don't they?
Catalans really needed to beat Warrington to stick a foot in the door that is closing on them fast - however, a 26-22 defeat to Warrington cost them dearly.
The loss means Catalans cannot afford to lose any of their remaining games if they hope to convert a slender chance of making it into the play-offs at the end of the regular season.
That means this weekend's games are crucial as St Helens host Cas, while Catalans travel to Wakefield.
4. Villain to hero
A week after the Challenge Cup blunder, Ben Currie redeemed himself by scoring the winning try against the Dragons.
In the Challenge Cup final, Currie knocked on in the act of scoring what would have been the winning try with two minutes remaining, but this week turned his fortunes around to help his side come from behind for a late victory that puts them top of the league with three rounds remaining.
5. Red Devil blues
Salford are in real danger of losing their Super League status after suffering a 30-8 defeat at Leeds. The Red Devils began the Qualifiers with an impressive win over Huddersfield, but consecutive defeats to Leigh and Hull KR left them perilously placed before Leeds worsened their relegation fears.
Salford are four points off a top-three spot that would guarantee another season in Super League, and face the prospect of scrapping for their survival in the Million Pound Game in October.
So what has gone wrong? Obviously being deducted six points has not helped, nor has the failed court case to overthrow that decision helped with their confidence.
However, Barrie McDermott and Terry O'Connor believe that the uncertainty surrounding Salford owner Marwan Koukash is also having an impact.
"I am not sure how that would impact me as a player," said Barrie. "I would be wondering if he [Koukash] was going to be here or not next year. He might have said something behind the scenes which could have affected them as well."
6. Barrie heading to the top of the world (well almost)
We are not sure if it is a good or bad omen but Barrie McDermott's email popped into our inbox a day after we watched Everest on Sky Cinema.
Barrie is climbing up to Everest Base Camp, then on to a higher place called Kala Pattar to raise funds and awareness for the Steve Prescott Foundation.
