A minute's silence will be held before every rugby league game this week to honour late Culcheth Eagles player Adam Cooper.

Cooper, 31, died after collapsing during a match for the Warrington-based Eagles at Runcorn ARLFC in the fourth division of the North West Rugby League at the weekend.

A Rugby Football League statement read: "The Rugby Football League are saddened by the news of the death of Culcheth Eagles player Adam Cooper; our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

"As a mark of respect, a minute's silence will be observed before every Rugby League game across all competitions this week in memory of Adam.

"A JustGiving donation page has been set up for those who would like to make a contribution to help support Adam's family - https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/culchethcarney2017"

The North West Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew to Runcorn Hill Park after receiving an emergency call when Cooper collapsed.

A spokeswoman said: "Ambulance clinicians found the patient unresponsive and attempted to resuscitate him until they handed over his care to Whiston Hospital staff."
