England forward Sam Burgess has been released from hospital in Sydney after being cleared of serious injury.

The 27-year-old dual-code international spent two nights in St Vincent's Hospital after hurting his neck during South Sydney Rabbitohs' NRL clash with St George Illawarra.

Burgess was hurt after appearing to duck his head into a tackle with Dragons prop Mike Cooper, going to ground and lying motionless at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Rabbitohs say MRI and CT scans have shown there is no damage to the vertebrae or spinal cord and Burgess is expected to make a full recovery.

The club insist they will continue to monitor the former Bradford prop for any muscle or neurological issues and no time frame has yet been set for his return.

However, Burgess will definitely not be available for the Good Friday game against Canterbury Bulldogs.
