Nine bags belonging to British athletes have gone missing on the opening day at the Olympics

Nine Team GB kit bags, some containing swimmers' competition kit, have gone missing at the Olympic Village in Rio.

Olympic correspondent Orla Chennaoui has told Sky Sports News HQ that when the team arrived at the village a few days ago, they were lead through to their accommodation while their bags were taken separately.

When the athletes arrived at their rooms it was discovered that there were nine bags missing.

Team GB has confirmed that the athletes are continuing their training as normal as they have additional kit in the event of such a circumstance occurring.

The British Olympic Association said in a statement: "A small number of bags - nine from a total of nearly 3,000 pieces of luggage - are currently unaccounted for following their transfer from Belo Horizonte to the Olympic Village in Rio.

"We are working hard to locate the bags as soon as possible. In the meantime all athletes continue to train as normal and are unaffected when it comes to training and competition wear.
