Denver Broncos quarterback Case Keenum admits he was 'disappointed' to find out the franchise had traded for Joe Flacco.

Flacco is expected to take over from Keenum as Broncos starter in 2019, with Keenum having come through an inconsistent first season with the team last season.

The Broncos posted a 6-10 record with Keenum throwing 18 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions after signing a two-year £36m deal with the team as a free agent.

His contract, which will pay him $21m this season, likely means Keenum will be looking for a new team again before the start of the 2019 campaign.

Speaking to the Sports Spectrum podcast, alongside wife Kimberly, Keenum said: "[General manager] John Elway called me that morning and we had a great conversation, which he didn't have to do - I appreciated that.

"But it was definitely a shock. It was a surprise for us and we're definitely disappointed. It's not something we wanted to happen.

"I know everybody is doing their job and John feels like it was a chance to help the Broncos out. It's another chapter in our lives and we're going to roll with it.

"We don't know what's going to happen - it's really open-ended now. This is still very fresh.

"A lot of these emotions we're talking about are still going on and still happening. Who knows what's going to be in store. I don't, for sure."
