The New York Jets have released defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson two years after signing a big-money contract extension.
Wilkerson was handed a five-year $86m (£62.5m) deal in 2016 but was not able to live up to the size of that contract in the two seasons that followed.
The Jets' decision to cut Wilkerson means they will save $11m in salary cap space this season.
Wilkerson's contract came after he had 12 sacks during the 2015 season, but he has managed only eight in two years since and was benched at one point last season because of his behaviour.
"Mo was a business decision, " Jets head coach Todd Bowles said.
"It wasn't disciplinary at all. It was a business decision that we made that was good for both parties, and we made that decision.
"I'm disappointed for the team. I'm disappointed for him. Obviously it didn't work out, but I have a lot of love for Mo. I still think he's got some football ahead of him and he's got some good football ahead of him. I just wish him the best."
