Colin Kaepernick and Stephen Curry have said they "want in" on rap star Diddy's plan to buy the Carolina Panthers.
Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, took to social media to express his interest in buying the Panthers after the team announced on Twitter that owner Jerry Richardson will be selling up at the end of the season.
Richardson, who founded the franchise in 1993, was last week placed under investigation by the NFL following allegations of misconduct.
"I believe it is time to turn the franchise over to new ownership," Richardson wrote in an open letter on the Panthers website.
"While I will no longer be the team owner, I will always be the Panthers Number One fan."
That prompted Diddy, whose net worth is estimated at over £600m, to publicly declare his interest in acquiring the franchise.
He wrote on Twitter: "I would like to buy the @Panthers. Spread the word. Retweet!"
In another tweet, he wrote: "There are no majority African American NFL owners. Let's make history."
In reply, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Kaepernick wrote on Twitter: "I want in on the ownership group! Let's make it happen!"
NBA superstar Stephen Curry, who grew up in Charlotte, also replied: "I want in!"
Diddy also posted a video on his Instagram account saying he would "immediately address the Colin Kaepernick situation and put him in the running for next year's starting quarterback. It's just competition baby".
Kaepernick was the first NFL player to kneel during the American national anthem in protest at perceived racial injustice and police brutality.
Kaepernick went unsigned this season despite injuries to a number of NFL starting quarterbacks.
