Former Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris came back to haunt his former team as the Dallas Cowboys beat their NFC East divisional rivals 38-14 on Thursday night.
Morris rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Dak Prescott shook off a hand injury to throw two TDs as the Cowboys (6-6) ended a three-game losing streak to just about stay alive in the NFC playoff race.
One of Prescott's touchdown passes was a 13-yard strike to Dez Bryant - the 72nd of his career, breaking a Dallas franchise record, one more than Hall of Famer Bob Hayes.
The Cowboys started quickly thanks to three first-half turnovers (four overall) by the Redskins - quarterback Kirk Cousins threw two interceptions and lost a fumble.
After a scoreless first quarter, Dallas took the lead as Prescott found tight end Jason Witten from eight yards out but also injured his right hand in the second quarter, apparently when he was hit by Redskins linebacker Josh Harvey-Clemons.
While Prescott was being evaluated, rookie Ryan Switzer scored his first career touchdown on an 83-yard punt return to extend the Cowboys' lead to 17-0 after an earlier Dan Bailey field goal.
A 75-yard drive that ended with a Cousins 20-yard scoring pass to Ryan Grant brought Washington back into the game before half-time.
Prescott, who had returned to the game, hit Bryant for another TD to open the second-half scoring in the fourth quarter. The Cowboys QB only threw for 102 yards on the night, but crucially didn't have a turnover after throwing five interceptions and losing three fumbles during the team's recent losing streak.
Dallas leaned heavily on the run game, like when suspended star running back Ezekiel Elliott was in the offense, with Morris racking up big gains on his 27 carries against his former team.
He ran in for the second of the Cowboys' three fourth-quarter scores as they clinched a fourth-straight win over the Redskins - the longest such streak in the series since 2003.
