Adrian Peterson thankful to be back starting with Arizona Cardinals

Adrian Peterson hopes his stunning return to form on debut for the Arizona Cardinals shows there is plenty left in his tank.

The running back was traded to the Cardinals earlier this month with the New Orleans Saints letting him leave for a conditional draft pick after rushing for only 81 yards in four games.

But Peterson showed some of his old spark in his first outing with the Cardinals, running for 134 yards on 26 carries against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and scoring two touchdowns in a 38-33 victory.

That performance was enough for the 32-year-old to be named NFC Player of the Week but Peterson hopes that is not the last celebration he will enjoy.

Peterson's next game comes in London, with the Cardinals facing the Los Angeles Rams at Twickenham on Sunday in the third game of the International Series.

He said: "It's amazing. When you think about the first four weeks and sitting on the sideline for the first time in my career, averaging less than 10 plays a game, for this opportunity and trade to come up and then come back and be named NFC Player of the Week - that's like a story you would see in a book.

"It's a blessing and I am just thankful for everyone that has been praying for me and keeping me up. There was times I was down mentally but I kept the faith and kept working and the opportunity came for me to take advantage of.

"That opportunity was all I was waiting for. I just wanted to contribute and show what I am able to do.

"Now I can kind of talk to my little man - before he was dogging me a little bit - "Daddy you don't have any touchdowns, I've got more touchdowns than you!".

"My mindset is always to be the best but I'm not selfish that way. If we go out and pass the ball 60 times and we're able to beat guys on play action, I'm cool with that as well."
