Oakland Raiders file application to move to Las Vegas

The Oakland Raiders could be the next NFL team to relocate after the league confirmed the franchise had applied to move to Las Vegas.

Last week, it was announced the the San Diego Chargers would be following the Rams to Los Angeles.

And the three-time Super Bowl-winning Raiders are now planning to leave California for a new base in Nevada, over 400 miles away.

The NFL released a statement on Thursday which read: "Today, the Oakland Raiders submitted an application to
relocate their franchise to Las Vegas, as is provided for under the NFL Policy and Procedures for Proposed Franchise Relocations.

"The application will be reviewed in the coming weeks by league staff and the Stadium and Finance Committees.

"The relocation of a franchise requires the affirmative vote of three-quarters of the NFL clubs (24 of 32)."

After a long absence from the play-offs, the Raiders recently returned to postseason play following a successful 2016 season.
