Going into half-time trailing 14-10 against the New York Giants, the Cincinnati Bengals needed an explosive start to the third quarter.
And they got just that through undrafted free agent Alex Erickson. The wide receiver, has been making plays in the special teams unit, and did so again in the Bengals' 21-20 loss to the Giants.
The rookie, a walk-on at Wisconsin after failing to receive any scholarship offers, was the only free agent signed by the Bengals in 2016.
He showed his ability in the pre-season with an 80-yard punt return touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings, and the Bengals' faith was repaid in the regular season when Erickson returned a kick for 65 yards in week eight, as Cincinnati played out a 27-27 tie with the Washington Redskins at Wembley.
This week, following their bye, Erickson delivered once again with an 84-yard, cross field run to get within nine yards of the goal line.
The play set up running back Jeremy Hill for a nine yard gain to complete a one minute scoring drive.
