Teddy Bridgewater has suffered a serious knee injury that could rule him out of the upcoming season, the Minnesota Vikings have confirmed.
The quarterback dislocated his knee and tore his ACL at a team practice on Tuesday, and will undergo surgery to repair the injury.
"After undergoing an MRI, it was determined that Teddy suffered a complete tear to his ACL and other structural damage," a Vikings statement read.
"Fortunately, there appears to be no nerve or arterial damage. Surgical repair will be scheduled within the next few days. Although the recovery time will be significant, we expect Teddy to make a full recovery.
"Teddy has already displayed the attitude needed to overcome this injury and attack his rehab."
Asked if Bridgewater would play in 2016, head coach Mike Zimmer told NFL: "It doesn't look good right now.
"We're not going to stick our heads in the sand, tuck our tail between our legs. We're not going to make excuses.
"Everybody can count us out but I think that'd be the wrong thing to do."
Bridgewater started all 16 games last season for the Vikings, throwing 14 touchdowns. Shaun Hill and Joel Stave are the team's other options at quarterback.
