LeBron James scored 27 points but could prevent the Los Angeles Lakers falling to a 113-105 defeat to city rivals the Clippers.
James played over 42 minutes and shot 9-of-18 from the field. He also contributed eight rebounds, six assists, a steal and a block but it wasn't enough to as the Clippers notched their third straight win, dealing a hammer blow to the Lakers' fading playoff hopes in the process.
James opened his account with a delightful spin move into the lane and a finger roll finish at the rim. A Rajon Rondo bounce pass set him up with an uncontested dunk off a back door cut in the second period.
In the third quarter, James went airborne on the baseline to find team-mate Reggie Bullock with a crosscourt pass. Bullock beat the buzzer with a triple to keep the Lakers in the contest.
With the Lakers trailing by 10 in the fourth period, James denied Clippers' scorer Lou Williams with a big rejection. He then spun past the Clippers defense on the baseline to score with a lay-up.
However, the deficit proved too much for the Lakers to overcome and they fell to 30-34 on the season, five-and-a-half games behind the eighth-seeded San Antonio Spurs.
