LeBron James' fifth triple-double of the season was not enough to carry the Los Angeles Lakers as they fell to a 117-113 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.
James posted 28 points (on 8-of-20 shooting), 16 assists and 11 rebounds but his good work was undone by young Atlanta stars Trae Young (22 points, 14 assists) and John Collins (22 points, eight rebounds) as the Hawks snapped a three-game losing streak.
James opened his account with a full-court drive to the hoop for a lay-up three minutes into the game and followed that up with a superb bounce pass to set up team-mate Brandon Ingram for an 'And 1' play shortly after.
In the fourth quarter, another James drive down the court resulted in contact, a running lay-up finish and a three-point play. With a minute remaining and Los Angeles trailing by seven, James kept the Lakers hopes alive with another powerful drive into the lane that resulted in an emphatic two-handed dunk.
A James lay-up with 13.9 seconds left pulled the Lakers within three points, but the Hawks put the game away when Kevin Huerter hit two free throws with 4.3 seconds remaining.
