New Orleans Pelicans center Anthony Davis has earned the admiration of NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson, who describes him as "a great player every single night".
"I admire Anthony Davis' work ethic and I admire his focus. It's not easy to be that main guy for a team because, every single night you go out there, you are 'the guy'," says Robinson. "He's a great player every single night and that is hard to do."
Davis's numbers certainly back up The Admiral's assessment. This season he is averaging 29.4 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks and provided consistent All-Star level performances in what has been a frustratingly inconsistent season for the Pelicans to date.
Davis' two-way skillset allows him to impact match-ups at both ends of the floor. How do you stop him from taking over games?
"If I had to guard Anthony Davis today, I'd try to slow him down," says two-time NBA champion Robinson. "He is a rhythm player. He can score a lot of points very quickly. He's a hustle guy - he can get rebounds on the offensive glass.
"I'd try to make the game as hard as possible for him. Good luck, because he is so athletic he's going to get some things!"
You can watch Davis in action when the Pelicans face the Memphis Grizzlies on Martin Luther King Jr Day (Monday, January 21) at 10:30pm on Sky Sports USA.
