Denver Nuggets claim record win over Los Angeles Lakers

Paul Millsap scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Denver Nuggets to their biggest victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in a 117-85 rout on Tuesday.

Jamal Murray and Malik Beasley also scored 20 points each as the 32-point winning margin surpassed a 29-point win in 1993.

LeBron James was powerless to resist as his team struggled from behind the three-point line, making just five of 35 attempts.

Kyle Kuzma, who led the Lakers with 21 points, was 1-for-7 from long range, and James missed all four of his efforts from beyond the arc.

Nikola Jokic delivered a complete performance with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds and seven assists, while Juancho Hernangomez also had 12 for the Nuggets, who extended their winning streak to four.

Up by eight at half-time, the Nuggets stretched their lead to 89-71 with a strong third quarter.

Jokic started the Nuggets' third by hitting a pair of threes and Mason Plumlee's tip-in just before the quarter ended put Denver in front by 18 points going into the fourth.

The Nuggets kept the pressure on in the final period, outscoring the Lakers down the stretch 28-14.

Denver led 58-50 at the half, getting a boost from Millsap, who converted a three-point play and then hustled down the floor for a soaring block of Ingram's attempted layup in the last 39 seconds of the second quarter.

The Nuggets' victory was made even more impressive by the absence of second-leading scorer Gary Harris as the guard remained out with left ankle soreness.

Having lost six out of seven matches before their latest win-streak began, Denver have now improved to 14-7, while the inconsistent Lakers fall to 11-9.
