James Harden scored a season-high 43 points to lead the Houston Rockets to a fifth straight victory in a tight contest with the Detroit Pistons.
The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player added seven rebounds and nine assists in a 126-124 win over the Eastern Conference team.
Having got into the paint early, Harden then heated up from three-point range as he began a scoring duel with Pistons forward Blake Griffin, who had 37 points himself.
Harden scored 29 of his 43 in the second half, including a basket shortly before the end that took him past Rudy Tomjanovich's mark of 13,383 points for third in Rockets career scoring.
Harden boosted his numbers with a perfect night from the free throw line, converting all 19 foul shots to ensure the Rockets' resurgence continued.
The victory lifts last year's Western Conference finalists to 9-7, with eight of those victories coming in their last 10 games.
