England's Kadeen Corbin was left with mixed feelings after 2014 Commonwealth Games

Kadeen Corbin features in episode 25 of Sky Sports' My Icon series

Kadeen Corbin says there is no place for racism in netball or any other sport

Netball has always been an inclusive environment for Kadeen Corbin but for some unsavoury comments directed at her and some of her team-mates at the Commonwealth Games.

A keen gymnast and a talented track and field athlete as a youngster, Team Bath goal shooter Corbin is an established England netball international with more than 50 caps to her name.

She was inspired to concentrate on netball because she "loved" watching sister and fellow England team-mate Sasha playing when the pair were both younger.

Corbin describes representing her country as an "absolute honour" but her career highlight - turning out for England at the Commonwealth Games - was blighted by covert racism.

"We played in the Commonwealth Games in 2014 in Glasgow and we had a few comments suggesting is this an England team or a Jamaica team.

"I felt that was a bit harsh because everyone works their butt off to get to that place, and to play for your country is a massive honour.

"If you have the ability to do that why not show your ability to the world. It's unfair that people actually bring you down just because of the colour of your skin. I don't think that's acceptable.

"I think we all just need to work together and embrace the fact that this country is very diverse. We all come in different, shapes, colours and sizes. That's just what happens, it's life."

Corbin talks about his journey in the latest instalment of My Icon, which premieres on Tuesday at 7am on Sky Sports Mix and is available On Demand. The episode is repeated on Tuesday at 1pm, 6pm and 10pm.
