Trek-Segafredo have confirmed the signing of John Degenkolb from Giant-Alpecin for 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons.

The 27-year-old German is a direct replacement for Fabian Cancellara, who is retiring at the end of the current campaign, and will move on January 1.

Degenkolb emerged as one of the best Classics riders in cycling by winning both Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix last year, but he is also one of the world's leading sprinters and has 10 Vuelta a Espana stage victories to his name.

Degenkolb's long-term team-mate Koen de Kort has also made the move from Giant-Alpecin to Trek-Segafredo on a two-year deal.

Degenkolb said: "I'm incredibly excited about this transfer. It's a big step for me to get such a great opportunity in a team like Trek-Segafredo, with such a strong Classics inspiration. It's a dream come true.
