Trek-Segafredo general manager Luca Guercilena has admitted he is interested in signing Tour of Flanders winner Peter Sagan at the end of the season.

Sagan is contracted to Tinkoff for 2016 and 2017, but the Russian team is set to fold this winter after owner Oleg Tinkov announced this year would be his last in cycling.

Unless new managers and sponsors secure a takeover of Tinkoff in the next few months, reigning world champion Sagan will become a free agent and could sign a deal with a rival team as early as this summer.

Trek-Segafredo are in the market for classics specialist to replace Fabian Cancellara, who will retire at the end of the season, and Guercilena believes Sagan would be the perfect candidate.

Speaking to Cycling Weekly, he also revealed talks with Sagan's agent, Giovanni Lombardi, have already taken place.

Guercilena said: "We know that Sagan is on the market. The market is still open and there are still many months before we can sign athletes.

"For sure, he's a big champion, a big name, and has a lot of talent. We will see.

"For sure [we are talking to Lombardi]. The market and agents are quite active and they propose riders 12 months a year.

"It's clear that we've had some chats with him, but it's clear that we are far from finding a solution right now."

Etixx - Quick-Step and BMC Racing have also been linked with moves for 26-year-old Sagan.
