Michael Bisping to defend UFC belt against Georges St-Pierre

By James Dielhenn

Michael Bisping will welcome all-time legend Georges St-Pierre back into the UFC Octagon, the organisation’s president Dana White has said.

Britain's first UFC champion Bisping will put his middleweight title on the line against former welterweight ruler St-Pierre, although no date or location has been set.

"He will fight Bisping for the 185lbs title," White told ESPN about the returning St-Pierre, who has not fought in nearly three-and-a-half years.

"He wanted to take some time-off from the sport but he's been talking about coming back for a couple of years. We got a deal done."

Canada's St-Pierre is regarded as one of the sport's greatest competitors and its finest welterweight champion, but he will step up to middleweight for the first time upon his return.

The fight represents a major coup for Lancashire's Bisping, who finally captured a UFC title in his 27th fight with the organisation during a stellar 2016.

Bisping, 38, and St-Pierre, 35, are also intriguingly tied with 19 UFC victories apiece, the joint-most ever.
