Jack Nicklaus believes Tiger Woods’ swing is at a career best and feels the 42-year-old could still challenge his record of 18 major victories.
Woods has made his first Masters appearance since 2015 this week after undergoing a string of back operations in an injury-plagued few years, forcing him to undergo spinal fusion surgery.
The former world No 1 posted a string of strong finishes on the PGA Tour and took the runner-up spot in the Valspar Championship in March, leaving Nicklaus impressed with Woods' competitive return.
"It has been 10 years since he has won a major, but he has still got plenty of time (to break the record of major wins)," Nicklaus told Sky Sports. "I've said many times that his chance has diminished because of time.
"Tiger's 42 years old and he'll be playing good competitive golf until he's 50. That's 32 majors and he only needs to win five to surpass my record. In the old days that was pretty easy for him!
"I think his golf game looks fantastic. He has adjusted to his fusion to swing basically and I think his swing is much better than it ever was. He generates tremendous club head speed and his short game is back.
"When you haven't played for a while and you start getting back and start feeling, all of a sudden your desire to play and to win gets greater."
