Jordan Spieth believes he produced one of his best-ever rounds at Augusta on his way to grabbing a two-shot lead after the opening day of the Masters.
The 2015 Masters champion fired five consecutive birdies on the back nine on his way to a six-under 66, pulling him two clear of fellow Americans Matt Kuchar and Tony Finau.
"I ended up having to make a really good bogey to post six [under] but it's up there in the top-three rounds I've ever played here," Spieth told Sky Sports.
"I felt we caught a really good break late in the day today to be able to play in short sleeves with no wind - the hardest part is figuring out which direction the wind's coming from."
After a two-putt par at the first, Spieth pitched to three feet on his way to birdieing the second and drained a 10-footer at the par-four next.
Spieth missed from seven feet at the fifth and dropped another shot at the seventh but bounced back with a 15-foot eagle at the eighth, before surging up the leaderboard after the turn.
The three-time major champion made a two-putt birdie at the 13th and holed from 10 feet at the next, with a smart lay-up at the par-five 15th setting up another close-range birdie.
Further gains over the next two holes pulled Spieth three clear of the chasing pack, before the 24-year-old made a superb up-and-down from the rough to leave the last with just a bogey.
