A late birdie blitz from Rickie Fowler saw the American snatch a one-shot victory at the Scottish Open.
The world No 9 slipped two strokes off the pace when he bogeyed the 14th after driving into a fairway bunker, but bounced back by playing the final four holes in three-under to finish one clear of compatriot Matt Kuchar and Raphael Jacquelin.
That brought back memories of the 26-year-old's victory in the Players Championship at Sawgrass in May, when he played the last six holes in six under before beating Kevin Kisner and Sergio Garcia in a play-off.
Kuchar had set the clubhouse target on 11-under par after a closing 68, finally ending the hopes of Scotland's Marc Warren who had finished ten under four hours earlier after a superb 64.
"I felt there was a good round in there somewhere and waited till the back nine today I suppose to get going," Warren said after covering the back nine in 30.
"The winds are the strongest we've had, but a few tee shots played slightly more downwind so you can get it a wee bit farther down there and I certainly managed to take advantage of that."
With Fowler holing from nine feet at the 15th, two-putting the par-five next and then hitting a superb approach to two feet on the last, it left Jacquelin needing to hole his second shot at the 18th to force a play-off.
The Frenchman's approach span back to within inches of the hole but didn't drop, giving Fowler, who closed a final-round 68, his second title of the year.
Jacquelin had the consolation of securing a place in the Open with his share of second place, with overnight leader Daniel Brooks - who carded a closing 73 - and Sweden's Rikard Karlberg, who posted a final-round 64, claiming the other two spots.
Eddie Pepperell and Joost Luiten joined Warren in a tie for fourth, with veteran Miguel Angel Jimenez part of the group a further stroke back.
Former world No 1 Luke Donald finished nine under par after a closing 66, but defending champion Justin Rose - joint second at halfway - carded a 76 to finish level par.
