Highlights of the final day from Pretoria as Dean Burmester stormed to his maiden European Tour title with a superb 65

Dean Burmester roared to his maiden European Tour title despite a late stutter as a final-round 65 earned him a three-shot victory at the Tshwane Open.

Burmester opened up a commanding six-shot lead after making seven birdies over the first 10 holes, and although he bogeyed 16 and 17, he had more than enough in hand to cruise down the last and post a winning score of 18 under par.

The South African's win validated a superb run of form this season, recording five top-20 finishes in six starts including top-10s in his home Open and in Abu Dhabi, and his performance in Pretoria cements his European Tour card for two years.

Burmester raced out of the blocks on the final day as he birdied the opening three holes before picking up further shots at the sixth, eighth and ninth to turn in just 29 strokes.

The 27-year-old kept his momentum flowing with another birdie at the 10th, although he dropped just his third shot of the week at the next before responding with a solid four at the long 12th.

He drilled another precise iron to close range at 14 and converted the putt to move to 20 under, and his victory procession was only slightly tainted by back-to-back bogeys.

"I can't believe it," he said after pocketing a career-best cheque of over €190,000. "I've had an amazing summer and last week was a frustrating day for me on Sunday and it didn't go my way but then my family and everyone who supported me said 'we're coming up next week so you better win in front of us' and I'm glad to have done that.

"I sharpened my teeth as a youngster on the Big Easy Tour here at home and I think I had five seconds in one year and then two years later I had four wins on the Sunshine Tour. It's gone strength to strength and now I'm a European Tour winner and that sounds great.

"I just knew that if I could get unscathed through 13, 15 and 16 I should pretty much be home and dry. I made a great par on 13 next to the tree and then birdied 14 and kind of calmed down. Bogeys at 16 and 17 weren't great but I was just trying to keep myself calm."

Mikko Korhonen birdied the final hole to cap a 67 and earn a share of second place with Jorge Campillo, who was struggling at even for the day until he made three birdies in four holes to card a battling 68.

American Peter Uihlein birdied five of the last eight holes to return a 66 and snatch outright fourth ahead of overnight joint-leader Alexander Bjork, who laboured to a disappointing 71.

Ireland's Paul Dunne (66) and Englishman James Morrison (69) shared sixth place on 12 under, but it was a miserable final day for Scott Jamieson, who began the round tied for the lead with Bjork only to crash to a closing 78.

The Scot bogeyed three of the first four holes and plummeted further down the leaderboard with double-bogeys at the eighth, 12th and 13th as he slipped to six under for the tournament.
