An unfortunate rules controversy, Asian dominance in the majors and a resounding win for Team USA in the Solheim Cup were the big storylines of 2017 in ladies golf.
The first major of the season, the ANA Inspiration, was marred by the four-stroke penalty handed out to Lexi Thompson which ultimately robbed her of her second victory at the Mission Hills Country Club.
Thompson fell victim to breach of the rules while marking and remarking her ball during the third round, an incident which was spotted by a television viewer, although she was not informed of the penalty until well into her final round as she went on to lose out to So-yeon Ryu in a play-off.
Ryu was one of three South Koreans to win majors, with American Danielle Kang winning the KPMG Women's PGA Championship before Sweden's Anna Nordqvist edged out Brittany Altomare at the Evian Championship in September.
A month earlier, Nordqvist had overcome a bout of glandular fever to play a starring role for Europe in the Solheim Cup as she won three and a half points from her four matches, earning a superb tie with Thompson in one of the greatest singles clashes in the history of the competition.
But despite her efforts, and the emergence of talented English youngster Georgia Hall, Team USA ran out convincing winners having won seven of the eight fourballs matches over the first two days.
Hall's consolation was to be the runaway winner of the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit, while Thompson ended a rollercoaster year as the Race to CME Globe champion on the LPGA Tour.
