Watch our top five moments on the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale

We look back through the Phoneix Open archives to pick out some of the memorable moments from TPC Scottsdale's 16th hole

The 16th at TPC Scottsdale is one of the most iconic holes in golf and has witnessed a number of memorable moments over the years at the Phoenix Open ... and not just for great shots!

Even the most seasoned professional can be reduced to a nervous wreck on the tee at what would usually be a tame 163-yard par three, with over 20,000 rowdy fans in the grandstands that surround the entire hole from tee to green.

Bad shots are greeted with a chorus of booing, but good shots are raucously welcomed and if anyone manages to make a hole-in-one, the scenes are astonishing. There have been only nine aces here since Hal Sutton managed the first back in 1988 - the most notable being Tiger Woods sending the crowds into raptures in 1997.

Francesco Molinari's ace prompted a storm of objects being thrown from the stands, and even a robot found the target, but there's nothing the crowd like better than players interacting with them and embracing the atmosphere.

Phil Mickelson threw a number of American footballs into the stands as he walked to the green, and we used to see regular caddie races until they were sadly banned on health and safety grounds a few years ago.

The atmosphere at the hole has drawn comparisons with being at the Super Bowl and contributes heavily to the tournament being dubbed "the greatest show on turf".
