Team captain Jay Haas has picked Phil Mickelson and his son Bill Haas as his two selections to join the US team for next month's Presidents Cup.

Their selections followed International team captain Nick Price's announcements on Tuesday that his two choices to join his line-up would be Australian Steven Bowditch and South Korea's Sang-Moon Bae.

The captain's picks for the team match-play event join the automatically-determined top 10 in each respective team, which had been confirmed earlier in the week.

The International team consists of the top 10 international players (non-US and non-European) from the world rankings as of September 7, 2015, plus the two captain's selections.

The US team is made up of the top 10 American players who earned the most FedExCup points from September 13, 2013, through to September 7, 2015, with points earned in 2015 doubled, plus the two captain's picks.

After the announcements, Jay Haas said: "If anyone deserves a pick, it's Phil Mickelson. The guys on the team trust him. Phil was an overwhelming choice to be a pick."

On choosing his son, he added: "I feel like Bill deserves this, he's had a wonderful year and to be honest I would have picked the eleventh person regardless.

Mickelson, replying through the event's official Twitter site, said: "This means a lot to me and I find that these events are where real relationships are formed with the players.

"The greatest thing about the game is the state that it's in with so many quality individuals who represent the game so well."

Bill Haas said: "I can't tell you how honored I am to be picked. I really, really wanted to make the team outright, I can't explain how I feel."

Bowditch was delighted. He said: "It's been a hectic 24 hours to say the least. I'm very humbled and it's been a dream... I'm just over the moon."
