Hideto Tanihara secured himself a special prize for firing a hole-in-one during the opening round of the Volvo China Open.

The Japanese star, chasing a first worldwide victory since 2016, nailed his tee shot at the par-three 16th on his way to an opening-round 72 at Topwin Golf and Country Club.

Tanihara birdied his opening hole but bogeyed three of his next seven to slip down the leaderboard, only to pick up a shot at the ninth to reach the turn in 37.

The world No 89 cancelled out a blemish at the 10th with back-to-back gains over his next two holes to get to level-par, before holing his iron at the 212-yard 16th to win a brand new Volvo XC90.
