The Spaniard carded a level-par 72 at Sheshan International Golf Club to lie eight strokes off the early lead, signing off his round in style after getting into trouble on his final hole.

Beginning on the back nine, Rahm missed from six feet to save par at the 14th and cancelled out another bogey at the next to roll in from 10 feet at the 16th.

Back-to-back birdies after the turn briefly lifted Rahm into red figures, only for Rahm to card a three-putt bogey at the third to slip back to level-par.

Rahm then found the water with his approach into the par-four ninth - his final hole - and took a penalty drop, only to pitch in from just next to the hazard to salvage an unlikely par.
