Spanish duo Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm have the chance to close the gap on Tommy Fleetwood at the top of the Race to Dubai standings at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters.

Twenty-two-year-old Rahm makes his first professional start on home soil at Real Club Valderrama, while Masters champion Garcia's foundation hosts the event - the last regular-season tournament of the European Tour campaign.

Fleetwood holds more than a million point advantage at the top of the standings with five events remaining but doesn't feature this week, allowing the Spanish duo to reduce their deficit in the race to be European No 1.

Pictures on social media have shown Rahm, as a child, waiting in line for autographs with future Open champion Henrik Stenson, with the Spaniard excited to return to the venue as a player.

"This venue is very important for Spanish golf," Rahm said. "In the past it did a great job putting Spanish golf on the map, they made it an iconic golf course.

"Then the Ryder Cup came along and made a huge impact in Spain - that's the reason why I'm playing golf.

"There have been some pictures floating around on social media of me waiting for some autographs right here in Valderrama and it was Henrik Stenson who signed my shirt.

"It's funny how I've come from that 10 years ago to now being able to compete alongside him and accomplish the things I've accomplished, so it's quite a special feeling to be back."

Garcia claimed a one-shot victory over compatriot Miguel Angel Jimenez when the tournament was last part of the European Tour schedule in 2011, with the world No 11 relishing the chance to return to the venue.

"This is my favourite golf course ever and it's the kind of golf course that even though it's not long, it challenges you," he said. "It's tight and it's always asking you to hit good shots, all kinds of shots.

"They are small greens so your iron play has to be spot on and if you miss the greens it's tricky. It's just a great, solid golf course.

"The pressure is still the same this week as any week, trying to do well and, yes, maybe trying to perform in front of my home crowds. It's as simple as that."

Watch the Andalucia Valderrama Masters throughout the week live on Sky Sports Golf. Live coverage begins on Thursday from 11am.
