Rickie Fowler wears Arnold Palmer-themed shoes at Bay Hill event

Plans are revealed to pay tribute to 'The King' ahead of this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational

The world’s top golfers have been paying tribute to Arnold Palmer at Bay Hill this week, with Rickie Fowler’s footwear displaying a unique homage to The King.

Fowler's Puma Ignite Hi-Tops have been redesigned by the manufacturer for the Invitational event, showing a number of Palmer-related photos and memories on the shoes.

The custom shoes have Palmer's signature engraved on the Velcro strap, with the iconic umbrella logo visible on the left tongue.

Images from various points of Palmer's career make up a graphic covering a large section of the shoes, while a quote from Fowler to remember the seven-time major champion also features.

To have the shoes, something different, it's kind of a collage of Arnie through his years of golf," Fowler told the media. "So it's pretty cool.

"I told some people I'm not sure if I'm going to take them off! It's going to be a special week and I'm glad I was able to put a couple things together."

Only two pairs of the handmade shoes have been created, with the other set signed by Fowler and auctioned off to raise funds for the Arnie's Army Charitable Foundation.

It isn't the first time a sportsman has worn Palmer-inspired footwear, with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown having specially-created cleats designed last autumn.
