Justin Thomas made history by shooting a historic ‘59’ at the Sony Open, signing off his round in impressive style.
Thomas fired 10 birdies and an eagle on his way to an 11-under round at Hawaii’s Waialae Country Club, giving him a three-shot lead over the chasing pack.
Beginning on the back nine alongside friends Jordan Spieth and Daniel Berger, Thomas holed a short pitch from the fairway for an opening-hole eagle but dropped a shot at the next.
Gains at the 13th and 14th were followed by a run of five consecutive birdies around the turn, with Thomas adding another at the par-three fourth.
Thomas came close to further birdies on a couple of occasions along the closing stretch, before finding the par-five ninth green in two.
Left with a 15-footer for eagle, Thomas then drained his putt to become only the seventh player in history to break 60 on the PGA Tour.
