Rory McIlroy’s playing commitments are over for another year, with 2016 providing the world No 2 with plenty of highs and lows on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Northern Irishman posted three wins and 10 more top-10 finishes during another impressive campaign, earning him more prize money than any other year in his career.
The majority of McIlroy's winnings came via his victory at the PGA Tour's season-ending Tour Championship, which also secured him the FedExCup title for the first time and the $10million jackpot.
Victory at East Lake came just weeks after a two-shot win at Deutsche Bank Championship, following on from his triumph on home soil a few months earlier at the Irish Open hosted by his foundation.
McIlroy only missed three cuts in his 21 worldwide starts, despite struggling with his putting and consistency in his game during a large chunk of the year.
The 27-year-old failed to add to his four major titles over 2016, struggling to a third-round 77 at the Masters and missing the cut at both the US Open and the PGA Championship.
McIlroy also made a fourth consecutive European Ryder Cup appearance, where his winning partnership with Thomas Pieters could stop Darren Clarke's side slipping to a 17-11 loss at Hazeltine.
