McIlroy's FedEx glory

Report from Rory McIlroy's FedExCup victory

The world No 3's hopes of an unlikely FedExCup victory appeared over when he trailed leader Kevin Chappell by three strokes with just three holes remaining, only to close the gap in some style at the par-four 16th.

Having seen his lengthy tee shot land a fraction left of the fairway and 137-yards short of the flag, McIlroy saw his approach pitch a few feet short of the flag before taking a couple of bounces and rolling in to the cup.

McIlroy raised his arms aloft in celebration of his eagle-two, which he followed with a final-hole birdie to close a six-under 64 and join Chappell and Ryan Moore in a three-way play-off.

The Northern Irishman then prevailed with a 15-foot birdie at the fourth extra hole to claim Tour Championship victory, which proved to be enough to replace Dustin Johnson at the top of the FedExCup standings.
