Danny Willett vows to bounce back after poor third day at Wentworth

Danny Willett was left to rue another "poor" back nine at Wentworth as he slipped three shots off the lead after the third round of the BMW PGA Championship.

Willett was five clear of the field after his tournament-record outward 29 on Friday, but he took 10 shots more on the inward stretch and ended the day in a three-way share of the lead.

The Masters champion fared even worse in the third round when, after seven pars and a birdie over his first eight holes, he made three consecutive bogeys and dropped further shots at 16 and 17 before saving par with a good up-and-down from the rear bunker at the 18th.

His inward 41 and a round of 75 left him back on six under, three behind 54-hole leader Scott Hend after the Australian eagled the final hole for the second day running.

"The back nine is a lot more draw off the tee and we obviously struggle hitting that. The front nine sets up quite nice, trying to hit fade off there most of the time," said Willett afterwards.

"We've got to take a lot of tight lines off the left in the back nine. Every now and again you kind of hit one straight and it kind of clips the trees and stays left, or you overdo it.

"We had everything under control nicely and then a couple of loose shots, a couple of bad decisions, a couple of missed putts and very quickly it kind of slipped away.

"It's disappointing to be somewhere there or thereabouts and then to play poor on the back nine like we did. So it's off to the range and see if we can get something going for Sunday.

"There's a score out there. Obviously it's a lot easier in the morning with the greens being good and obviously the wind down. This afternoon it picked up and it was a bit swirly, and the greens were getting a bit poor in the afternoon.

"We hit some bad golf shots out there, but it's tough to stay on par when your ball doesn't stay on line. I had plenty of bad shots in there and stuff, but enough good to shoot the score we did. Just couldn't get a score going."
